Reporting to the Manager, Business Decision Support (BDS), this position is responsible for designing, developing and maintaining economic models that evaluate profitability and financial impact analysis to support the decision-making process. This role, working in support of the Manager, Business Decision Support contributes centrally to the corporation's overall strategic planning initiatives through studies and presentations of findings to senior management. This position is also responsible for preparing all costing-related documentation that will be used in filings with regulatory bodies such as the CRTC and ISED. Additionally, this position will work with various types of stakeholders in the collection of data and the technological understanding of Northwestel's network.
Key Accountabilities
- Design and develop economic models using elements of short and long-term finance, discounted cash flows, cost of money. This task comes with the regular update and maintenance of the models to keep up with the evolution of the network and macro-economic changes.
- Participate in the calculation of major financial factors and indices that will be used in the above-mentioned economic models such as loaded labour rates, CPIs, power expense factors, etc.
- Prepare filing documents for regulatory filing to the CRTC, in the form of excel sheets and word documents. Conduct research and financial analyses to assess the implications of such regulatory proposals.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with subject matter experts (SME) within Product Management, Technology Development, Accounts Architects and Network Planning \& Operations to gain an understanding of emerging network technology, provisioning practices and organizational capabilities that will be factored into the cost models for business decision support.
- Provide support in the planning, implementation, and administration of medium and long term enhancements to the costing framework.
- Run training on Business Decision Support's costing tools and methodology to relevant internal public to foster internal requests and oversight.
- Identify opportunities for applying business decision support systems/mechanisms within the Company that add value and bring these to the attention of the Manager, BDS.
- Propose automation of processes and calculations to improve requests turnaround time and BDS' capacity using tools such as VBA macros or python scripts.
- Gather data from a variety of different stakeholders and systems such as SAP reports to feed economic studies and cost identification in the economic models.
- Participate fully in our organizational health and safety programs, adhering to all safe work practices and procedures and staying focused on continuous improvement. In addition, ensuring all Accident Prevention Program (APP's) training, all Code of Business Conduct (CoBC) training, and all other Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) training are completed on time.
- Timely completion of all administrative tasks including, but not limited to time reporting, expense reporting and submission of corporate card statements, as applicable.
Knowledge And Skills Required
- Bachelor Business Administration (BBA), post-graduate degree in Economics or Engineering, or a professional finance or accounting designation, such as a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).
- Three to five (3-5) years experience in economics, finance or accounting-related activities in business intelligence gathering, modeling and analysis.
- Detailed knowledge of incremental costing and economic principles related to costing, including concepts of time value of money, and economic evaluators such as Net Present Value (NPV), payback period, rate of return, cost of capital etc.
- Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Excel with a proven ability to analyze and manipulate significant amounts of data and create well-organized and flexible Excel templates which link to existing evaluation tools.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, research, organizational, planning, project management, and facilitation skills with the ability to convey ideas effectively to broad audiences.
- Results oriented with an ability to work under stringent timeframes and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments.
- Strong computer skills and the ability to quickly learn internal computer programs.
- A professional background in engineering systems or telecommunication is an asset.
- Previous use of VBA and python will be considered an asset.
- Knowledge of the elements of a health \& safety program will be considered an asset.
Working Conditions
This position works in a typical office environment with extended periods of sustained mental concentration and visual effort. Due to the nature of the duties longer hours than normal may be required at certain times of the year when working towards deadlines.
