Position Overview
As a Structural Design Engineer, you will be a part of a growing team that supports all aspects of the construction process by performing innovative design engineering through brainstorming conceptual designs, performing and/or reviewing structural calculations, developing plans, scheduling tasks to meet client needs, as well as mitigating risk to keep our construction crews safe. This position is based out of our [CITY, STATE] office and typically requires less than 25 percent travel.
Responsibilities
- Performs complex calculations and applies standards correctly without supervision. Takes lead when works with peers.
- Reviews the work of engineers and designers developing engineering and design documents as needed for the project.
- Analyze structures using various structural engineering software programs for the design of buildings and building foundations, equipment platforms and foundations, pipe racks, and miscellaneous concrete and steel structures. Prepares quantities, cost estimates, and other supporting documentation for projects.
- Prepare engineering drawings and calculations, include specifications relating to the discipline.
- Review, monitor and ensure compliance requirements are met for the design (e.g. Standards, specifications, and local codes and regulations).
- Possess critical analytical skills and adept at utilizing good decision-making tools; high level of data analysis skills.
- Regularly perform reviews of vendor documents to ensure specifications and data sheet requirements are met.
- Lead mid to large-size projects or proposals.
- Develop and lead others in ways of improving the design and lowering costs.
- Consider multiple solutions and make good decisions based on good data analysis.
- Manage several different assignments simultaneously.
- Apply techniques/technologies to improve processes and business results.
- Utilize industry and company standards to design and engineer effectively.
- Serve as a resource to less experienced engineers.
- Review application of standards for correct interpretations.
- Lead projects in how to interpret and apply codes and standards.
- Lead team to identify changes in the scope of work during mid to large-sized projects.
- Produce design changes as needed to stay within budget and schedule.
- Recognize the importance of customer needs.
- Perform assigned work efficiently and effectively to maximize personal productivity.
- Lead quality checks of the design and engineering of a mid to major-sized project to ensure accuracy.
- Establish credibility in terms of technical competency and team-leading ability.
- Prioritize time to meet team commitments and individual work requirements.
- Contribute to the development of client proposals and project cost estimates.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering minimum required.
- 10-18 years' minimum relevant experience in the refining and petrochemical industry preferably with EPC experience.
- Licensed Professional Engineer with NCEES records preferred.
- Travel \< 25% expected.
- Self-direct work with limited supervision.
- Provide guidance, leadership, and training to less experienced engineers.
- Lead small teams to complete tasks/design on projects.
- Work with project teams as a representative and coordinate work within the discipline department.
- Adjust to varying demands of work and perform well.
- Develop and present work in well-constructed written and verbal presentations. Clearly convey messages and ideas, gain understanding.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and members of the immediate department.
- Work collaboratively across departments and involve others in solving problems. Initiate meetings within own team, other disciplines, or internal customers for clarity on work.
- Support project teams and departments in a positive and productive manner. Work well with others to accomplish common goals and objectives.
- Serve as a technical resource and point of contact for external or internal customers.

Base Compensation: $138,000/yr - $157,000/yr
(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
