The Institutional Equities division of TD Securities provides equity sales, trading, research, underwriting, and distribution from offices in Canada and the US.
As an Associate in Equity Research in the mining group, you will have an opportunity to work directly with an equity analyst on the daily publication of company and industry research reports. You will hone research skills, gain detailed understanding of the sectors covered, and obtain insight into the institutional equity business.
- Work closely with an analyst to develop an idea-oriented research team
- Assist in the preparation of financial models to forecast quarterly and annual earnings, including maintaining and enhancing financial models and databases
- Compile and evaluate company and industry data
- Assist in the development of valuation tools
- Assist in the preparation of company and industry research reports (e.g. quarterly reporting initiatives and marketing packages)
Job Requirements:
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
- Ability to work independently under strict deadlines, with attention to detail and output orientation
- 2 years of experience in the field working as a geologist/at a mine or for a mining company in a technical role
- Strong work ethic, ability to take initiative and balance multiple tasks
- Superior business writing skills, presentation skills and interpersonal skills
- Excellent spreadsheet and financial analysis skills
- Analytical and strong quantitative skills
- Service orientation and professional attitude at all times
- Demonstrated interest in capital markets -- comfortable with finance theory
- Willingness to put in the hours (often on short notice) -- especially since western-based companies often release after market close
- Able to sell ideas
- High attention to detail
- High levels of accuracy
- Strong preference for finance and business qualifications -- must be comfortable working with financial statements
- Designations such as CFA or CA/CPA would be an asset
- Proficient working knowledge of Bloomberg
