Position Overview:
NSUS is currently seeking a Legal Counsel to partner and assist our General Counsel with respect to our growing trademark portfolio and general privacy concerns. Additionally, the General Counsel may require some assistance managing marketing initiatives, compliance, and regulatory matters in the iGaming industry in existing and emerging markets.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assisting the General Counsel with:
- Our growing trademark portfolio (i.e. filings, assignments, oppositions, renewals, enforcement);
- Privacy related concerns (i.e. updating policies, responding to DSARs);
- Reviewing commercial agreements;
- Assisting with marketing initiatives;
- Implementing appropriate developments and amendments to existing policies, procedures, and systems;
- Working closely alongside all internal departments such as Customer Support, Finance, Marketing, Operations, and Payments in order to ensure the product offering complies with legislation set out by the regulatory bodies. These teams are likely to have daily ad-hoc questions so the candidate should feel confident to assist the teams to reach compliant conclusions together;
- Providing support, training, and guidance to other members of the team;
- Such other duties and responsibilities that may be required from time to time.
Qualifications:
- 3years of post-call experience in relevant field for a recognized major law firm or multinational organization;
- Understanding of trademark practice and experience managing trademark portfolios;
- Privacy experience (i.e. GDPR, PIPEDA etc..);
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) or Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from a recognized Canadian law school (or an accredited foreign equivalent with a Certificate of Qualification from the National Committee on Accreditation (NCA));
- Licensed to practice law in Ontario and in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario (LSO);
- Ability to instruct external legal counsel and respond to demands in a timely manner;
- Experience with legal technology, conducting legal research and using contract management software is preferred;
- iGaming experience and Poker knowledge is a plus;
- Strong logical and analytical skills as well as the ability to multitask and balance multiple projects and priorities with minimal supervision;
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to articulate issues and results in a clear, concise, and precise manner, both verbally and in writing;
- You must be a dedicated and supportive teammate and be willing to help out when needed;
- Ability to work on projects independently or collaboratively with the team;
- Proactive about new projects that will help the team;
- Curious by nature, passionate about poker and improving the ecology of the poker industry.
