Role Summary
The Assistant Controller will be a crucial member of the finance team, providing strategic advice and subject matter expertise. The Assistant Controller will oversee key financial operations of the organisation and work closely with management to develop and implement strategies and plans to achieve the company's long-term objectives.
Reporting Structure
This role will report to the Director of Shared Services.
Critical Accountabilities

Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts and report variances

Coordinate the preparation of regulatory reporting

Research technical accounting issues for compliance

Working with external accountants to provide information as required to produce year end financial reports and corporate tax returns

Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting
-
Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings

Prepare timely and detailed reports on financial performance on a quarterly and annual basis

Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls

Oversee and assist in management of Canadian and foreign investments

Additional duties as necessary
Qualification \& Experience
-
Proven working experience as an Assistant Controller

6 years of overall combined accounting and finance experience

Advanced degree in accounting
-
CPA or CMA preferred

Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures

Experience with creating financial statements

Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process
-
Experience with budgeting and financial analysis
-
Excellent accounting software user and administration skills

Experience with investments and foreign exchange management
-
Previous exposure to Canadian and international corporate tax filings
Note: This role is in a virtual team environment, and the role holder must be available occasionally on evenings and weekends.
