Job Overview:The Senior Engineer, Systems will provide critical engineering expertise and support to the Surrey Langley SkyTrain (SLS) Project team, ensuring seamless integration of operational systems from conceptual design through to project completion.
This role focuses on supporting the Technical Manager -- Systems in managing and integrating various rail applications, including power, telecommunications, automatic train control, and trackwork components. The Senior Engineer will oversee the technical design and integration of these systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards and project requirements. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in the systems engineering lifecycle for rail transit projects.

Key Accountabilities:Supports the Technical Manager -- Systems in managing, tracking, and reviewing the technical submissions including design drawings, over-arching plans, schedule changes, and work plans from conceptual design to implementation. Represents TIC's interests at project related meetings with our contractors and other stakeholders. Establishes and maintains effective relationships with stakeholders during the design and construction phases to address key challenges and resolve complex problems (e.g., disputes, quality assurance/control, permits and approvals, and change order management/mitigation).
Provides engineering support in analyzing and providing technical guidance on the systems integration components, systems interfaces, and contractual scope split delineations for the project. Provides a senior level of technical advice, analyses, and designs to resolve system and safety issues, develop robust and reliable solutions, and to review related design, test and as-built documentation provided by others. Provides direct oversight for operational systems design and integration of rail applications, maintains compliance with work and industry standards, and balances competing demands against project scope, time, cost and quality.
Collects, analyzes, and summarizes information, monitors compliance, and prepares project status reports. Reviews engineering deliverables and initiates appropriate corrective action to address issues throughout the project lifecycle. Directs, supports, and provides technical reviews for junior engineers, engineers-in-training, and engineering co-op students.
Supervises staff including assignment of work, development and evaluation of performance plans, approval of leave, response to grievances and initiation of disciplinary processes. Qualifications:Bachelor of Engineering degree with a minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in Systems Engineering with significant experience in rail and transit projects. Preference may be given to applicants with a degree in Engineering with a focus on electrical/electronic engineering and Registered, or eligible for registration with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC).

Advanced knowledge of the principles, theories, concepts and practices of system engineering, including the application of principles related to conceptual design, requirements definition, design, testing and project management.
Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to plan, lead and document technical meetings and conversations with clients, contractors, suppliers and regulators. Working knowledge of AutoCAD and MS Office applications (Excel, MS Project, Word). Demonstrated ability to work well individually and as a member of a team.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Strong technical management skills. Note:You must be legally authorized to work in Canada.
