Senior Project Accountant
$75,000- $85,000 with competitive bonus and benefits

My client is a privately held real estate firm that has been a leader in the Canadian market. The company has a robust pipeline of development projects across a range of asset classes with several billion in current project value under management.
They are actively seeking a Senior Accountant to join its growing finance team. This individual will play a key role in the financial oversight of a portfolio of real estate development and stabilized assets. Reporting directly to the Controller, the role offers broad exposure to project accounting, financial planning and analysis, and cross-functional collaboration with development and asset management team
Responsibilities:
- Maintain full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of development and income-producing properties
- Set up and revise job cost budgets, and manage contracts and purchase orders
- Post journal entries related to land acquisitions, construction costs, accruals, and project transactions
- Perform account reconciliations including bank, loan, and general ledger accounts
- Prepare and coordinate monthly and quarterly close processes
- Manage construction draws, working closely with internal teams, external consultants, and lenders
- Support weekly cash flow forecasting, liquidity planning, and budget updates
- Work with partners and contractors to process change orders and update project cost estimates
- Ensure compliance with internal controls and provide audit and tax support as needed
- Manage billing for corporate fees associated with development, leasing, and asset management
- Participate in process improvement initiatives and support ad hoc report
Qualifications:
- 2+ years of relevant experience in real estate development accounting
- Solid understanding of full-cycle accounting principles and real estate-specific transactions
- CPA designation (or in progress is strongly preferred)
- University degree in Accounting or Finance from a recognized Canadian institution
