The position reports to the Hematology Manager. The Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) is responsible for performing Hematology tests and procedures in accordance with the HRLMP policies and procedures. This testing includes but is not exclusive to: Hematology morphology, bedside BM preparation, special stains, and cell markers utilizing flow cytometry technology. The MLT is expected to operate and maintain laboratory equipment, perform quality control and assurance procedures, participate in the implementation of new methodology and evaluations and demonstrate a commitment to continuing education. In addition, the MLT will display courtesy and tact with peers, patients, the public and other hospital staff. Must be prepared to contribute when required with additional tasks such as teaching, method evaluation, technical writing, quality assurance projects, safety etc.
Qualifications

Current Registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO)

Successful completion of an accredited MLT program

Demonstrated experience and knowledge in Hematology morphology

Flow cytometry/special stain experience and knowledge of bedside marrow preparation technique

Computer skills in Order Entry, Data Entry and Reporting

Excellent communication, organizational and problem- solving skills
