Our growing network of water monitoring devices and interactive maps helps visualize real-time environmental data to protect ecosystems across the globe.
The Role
This is an un-paid, volunteer role.
We're seeking a talented Front-End Developer with at least 3 years of demonstrable experience building polished, interactive web applications and mobile apps. You'll help bring our mission to life by creating user-friendly interfaces that make complex water data accessible to scientists, volunteers, and the public alike.
This role is perfect for someone who thrives in dynamic environments, loves crafting intuitive user experiences, and wants their work to make a tangible environmental impact.
What You'll Do
- Develop responsive, accessible web and mobile applications
- Collaborate with designers, backend developers, and data scientists
- Integrate real-time and historical environmental data using public APIs
- Build interactive visualizations (e.g., map overlays, charts, sliders)
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to our open-source efforts
- Help shape the direction of our UX/UI as we scale
Requirements
- 3+ years of front-end development experience (React, Vue, or similar)
- Experience building mobile apps (React Native, Flutter, or equivalent)
- Proficient in working with APIs and handling data-driven UI
- Strong grasp of HTML, CSS, and modern JavaScript/TypeScript
- Comfort with GitHub and collaborative development workflows
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
Nice to Have
- Experience with AI/ML tools or building data visualizations
- Familiarity with backend systems (e.g., FastAPI, Heroku, AWS)
- Passion for environmental tech or open-source work
