The project you will you be working on:The Ontario Line ("OL") is a fully integrated, stand-alone, rapid transit system that connects Ontario Science Centre to the Exhibition and Ontario Place grounds. The Northern Civil, Stations and Tunnel ("NC") project consists of approximately 7 kms of underground subway and elevated guideway, with stations along the segment providing connections to surface bus and streetcar routes.
The NC project has been divided into two main progressive design-build contracts: (1) the Elevated Guideways and Stations Contract ("EGS") and the Pape Tunnel and Underground Station Contract ("PTUS"), with supporting Early Works.
JOB SUMMARY:As a Junior Technical Office Engineer, you will assist in coordinating, preparing, and reviewing technical documents, drawings, and project specifications. You will also help ensure the timely and accurate execution of engineering tasks and support the technical office team in resolving on-site challenges. RESPONSIBILITIES:Assist in the preparation and review of technical documents, including drawings, specifications, and reports, ensuring they meet project requirements.
Support the preparation and submission of requests for information (RFIs) and manage correspondence related to technical aspects of the project. Assist in the coordination of project drawings and ensure that they are accurate, up to date, and issued to relevant parties (e.g., subcontractors, suppliers, and client). Help review and track construction progress against project plans, ensuring technical issues are addressed promptly and efficiently.
Assist in the preparation of technical reports and submittals. Help manage the preparation and review of shop drawings and material submittals to ensure compliance with project specifications and design requirements. Coordinate with the site team and subcontractors to resolve technical issues and ensure that work is carried out according to the approved plans and designs.
Assist in evaluating and monitoring project costs, ensuring that the technical scope aligns with the project budget. Participate in technical meetings with client, consultants, and subcontractors to address issues and clarify technical details. Provide technical support to the technical team in implementing engineering solutions to problems encountered on-site.
DESIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, COMPETENCIES:Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field. Experience in a technical office role in the construction industry. Basic knowledge of construction processes, methods, and materials.
Familiarity with project management software, AutoCAD, or other design and drafting software. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Excellent attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Good understanding of technical drawings and specifications. Eagerness to learn and develop skills in project coordination and technical support.
Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to addressing project challenges. PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS:Experience using building information modeling (BIM) software. Familiarity with construction codes, standards, and regulations.
