As Staff Accountant, you will be responsible for the preparation, development, analysis, verification and communication of vital financial information and business metrics. You will coordinate and assist with developing and tracking budgets, financial reporting, receivables and payables, ensuring compliance and preparing a variety of reports.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
- Creates invoices according to company practices and submits invoices to customers; works with sales and project managers when processing progress billings and collecting past due payments.
- Reviews sales tax amounts on all invoices and manages collection and filing of tax-exempt certificates.
- Drafts correspondence for standard past-due accounts and collections, identifies delinquent accounts by reviewing files, and contacts delinquent accountholders to request payment.
- Sets invoices up for payment by verifying transaction information, entering, scheduling, preparing disbursements, and obtaining authorization of payment.
- Follows up with purchasing department as well as vendors to reconcile discrepancies between invoices, packing slips and PO's.
- Assists in the financial reporting process and the preparation of monthly and quarterly financial data, statements, reports and supporting documentation.
- Performs reconciliation of assigned general ledger and bank accounts on a timely basis.
- Supports the team with the monthly close process to ensure the deadline is met or exceeded, as well as with the monthly and quarterly presentation of financial statement information.
- Assists and/or maintain daily financial information including but not limited to: payments, statements, accounts receivable, accounts payable, electronic funds/transactions, general journal, depreciation accounts, and financial statements.
- General Ledger -- creation and maintenance of GL entries (as assigned).
- Assist controller with financial reporting, audits, tax reports and financial year-end reporting.
- Establish proper accounting methods, policies and procedures. Provide recommendations to improve systems and procedures and initiate corrective actions.
- Other additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Skills and Educational Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or business administration preferred.
- 2-3 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and financial reports. Familiarity with generally accepted accounting principles.
- Excellent organizational, problem solving, time management skills and communication skills. Accuracy in daily work and projects with ability to meet communicated schedules and deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment.
- Results-oriented with willingness to take responsibility and initiative.
- In order to be considered for this role you must be a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident.
- In order to be considered for this role you must obtain Canadian Controlled Goods and Reliability Security Clearance.
