Course Description: In this course, students will examine the rich and complex picture of social media and the critical role strategic social media plays in the organizational public relations function. This course applies social media strategies to public relations for government, non-profit, corporate and agency sectors. It challenges students to understand the framework for transitioning social media from the personal to the organizational voice and to respond strategically to the way an organization's audience connects, collaborates and builds relationships online. It focuses on strategic analysis and organizational integration of social media objectives through public relations strategies.

Course Description: This course examines the relationship between public relations and the media. Through work on a client project, students learn about the importance of strategic media planning in both traditional and online environments and practice writing public service announcements (PSAs), news releases, feature articles and creating media kits. Students participate in a mock news conference and receive media training.

- Instruction: course delivery including preparation of course outlines, other course materials, course activities, lesson preparation and assessments, and course learning management systems.
- Administration: administer final exams, input final grades upon course completion, and participate in course-related meetings, as required.

About the Faculty of Business, Communication Studies and Aviation
The Faculty of Business, Communication Studies \& Aviation comprises the Bissett School of Business, the School of Communication Studies and the Aviation Program. The Bissett School of Business offers a four-year Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree with majors in accounting, human resources, general management (with concentrations in innovation and entrepreneurship, social innovation). Students in the Bissett School of Business can take a four-year Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree. The Aviation Program is housed in the Department of International Business, Supply Chain and Aviation and offers a two-year Aviation Diploma and the newly launched four-year Bachelor of Aviation Management. Students in the School of Communications Studies take a four-year Bachelor of Communication Studies (BComms) and can pursue majors in Broadcast Media Studies, Information Design, Journalism and Public Relations.
