Overall Responsibilities
The Quality Control Chemistry Supervisor will support the quality production of products at Jamieson throughout the manufacturing cycle, ensure the integrity of all raw materials and finished products as defined by their respective specifications, and ensure appropriate compliance to all relevant regulatory requirements.
Specific Key Responsibilities \& Duties
- Supervise qualified personnel and all testing functions associated with the Chemistry lab.
- Supervise activities of the QC Chemistry Technologists and Technicians in conjunction with the Senior Technologists of Chemistry through scheduling, active feedback and performance appraisals.
- Responsible for maintaining proper staffing of laboratories (new hires and training).
- Encourage and develop analysts through cross-training and providing educational training sessions (webinars, demonstrations, tutorials).
- Create training programs and train all personnel in areas as they relate to chemistry.
- Professional continuous improvements through educational training sessions.
- Help establish, implement and maintain laboratory systems, (Standard Operation Procedures, Standard Testing Procedures, Out of Specification, Deviations, CAPA, LIMS and Training) to ensure the integrity of analytical test results.
- Review chemical testing on all raw materials, bulk products, finished products and components.
- Participate and play a key role in out of specification investigations at all Jamieson Wellness sites.
- Liaison with other functional areas to support the production, sale and marketing cycle.
- Supervise the upkeep of contracted obligations to third party customers.
- Planning, organization, and control of the chemistry lab according to corporate strategy.
- Proactively review and adopt technological improvements to the laboratory functions.
- Working in compliance with the company's Health \& Safety Policies/SOPs including but not limited to the Safety Responsibilities Procedure.
- Ensure operation of the chemistry lab within budgeted constraints.
- Conduct technical tours of the chemistry laboratory.
- Continually monitor and adjust to changing regulatory and compendial testing requirements for food products, drug products and natural health products.
- Audit external service providers and internal practices.
- Will comply with Good Manufacturing Practices in all GMP sensitive areas of Jamieson Wellness facilities.
- Other duties and projects as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills \& Abilities Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmacy or an appropriate Life Science from an accredited post-secondary institution and a minimum of three (3) years of practical experience.
- Familiar with the USP, FCC, EP and AOAC and the other standards used in the food and drug industry.
- Superior communication and management skills.
- Commitment to continuous professional improvement.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Proficient with computers.
- Ability to obtain results with minimal supervision and work in and create a Team Environment.
