Support the development and implementation of strategies aimed at achieving the goals and objectives contained in the City's Community Energy Transition Strategy and C627 Climate Resilience Policy

Develop technical engineering work products, which may include, but are not limited to:

Technical assessments on the greenhouse gas impacts of various projects, including relevant emissions factors, and associated recommendations for mitigation

Engineering specifications, standards, and procedures related to greenhouse gas quantification and assessment
-
Participate in and evaluate engineering and technical studies and make recommendations based on professional judgement (e.g., greenhouse gas impacts of various projects);
-
Provide professional input in the development of annual corporate and community greenhouse gas inventories, carbon budgets, and associated greenhouse gas forecasting
-
Develop and evaluate corporate and community climate change mitigation targets and actions
-
Contribute to preparing engineering specifications, standards, procedures and policies related to greenhouse gas quantification and energy transition
-
Provide engineering quality assurance technical review and recommendations for work that is completed by others
-
Provide professional input, interpretation and feedback for technically complex or sensitive issues involving multi-disciplinary engineering and scientific data

Support the evaluation and/or development of tools for analysis and monitoring of sustainability and long term corporate and community energy transition metrics

Support leadership, management and implementation of climate change programs, projects and initiative

Serve as a technical resource on climate change mitigation / energy transition to support City policy positions to other areas of the Corporation, internal committees, project / working teams and City Council as required, as well as to community partners, companies, organizations, associations, regional municipalities and other orders of government

Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Environmental, Civil, Chemical, Mechanical or related)

Must be a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in good standing and registered with APEGA. Applicants in a different Canadian jurisdiction eligible for Inter-Provincial Mobility (IPMA) with APEGA may be considered. Registration with APEGA must be obtained prior to commencement of employment.

Minimum of 4 years of progressively relevant and technical experience in climate change mitigation (including renewable energy, greenhouse gas quantification and assessment, greenhouse gas forecasting, target setting and policy tools)

Strong quantitative analytical skills and the ability to analyze, explain and evaluate highly complex technical information and policy issues
-
Knowledge of APEGA rules, legislation and regulations
-
Knowledge of local, regional, national and global sustainability and resiliency issues
-
Knowledge of the City of Edmonton's Climate Resilience Policy (C627) and energy transition and adaptation strategies
-
Knowledge of climate change mitigation, adaptation and environmental risk assessment processes
-
Knowledge of technical standards and protocols related to greenhouse gases, such as: ISO 14064, the Greenhouse Gas Protocol for Cities, Corporate Standard, and other relevant standards and guidance documents

Logical approach to solving problems based on information from multiple perspectives
