Your opportunity:
Reporting to the Assistant Director – Academic Program Administration, the Pharmacy Practice Lab (PPL) Lab Teaching Technician provides support to Medication Therapy Management and other clinical courses and initiatives by responding to faculty, staff and students in a customer service-focused manner and redirecting as required for items that need to be escalated. The PPL Lab Teaching Technician is responsible for providing laboratory support/services by scheduling lab equipment and resources, responding to enquiries within the defined scope of the role, and redirecting as appropriate. The ideal candidate will also provide general lab maintenance, program support and contribute to teaching lab operations.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Scheduling the use of lab equipment and resources
- Liaising with the service provider to resolve issues with malfunctioning equipment
- Setting up the lab/workshop according to research and/or course schedules
- Collaborating with staff and course instructors to determine lab setup requirements
- Preparing, assembling, and setting up material, equipment, and supplies used in teaching and/or research labs
- Responding to enquiries within the defined scope of the role and redirecting as appropriate
- Photocopying and/or printing and passing on course materials
- Providing program support by responding to enquiries within the defined scope of the role and redirecting as appropriate
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
- Minimum two years of experience working in a teaching lab environment, working with students and faculty as the first point of contact for all lab-related inquiries
- Experience preparing materials and ordering supplies for lab sessions
- Experience using learning management systems (ex- Quercus)
- Experience using pharmacy software such as Kroll
- Experience providing academic program support in a post-secondary institution
- Ability to take initiative, solve problems and make day-to-day decisions
- Demonstrated ability to work well as a team member and independently
- Demonstrated ability to work in a high-pressure environment and prioritize tasks
- Proven ability to troubleshoot and escalate where necessary
Assets (Nonessential):
- Experience working in a health care education-based teaching lab is an asset
- Previous pharmacy, pharmacy technician or sterile compounding experience is considered an asset
- Experience in teaching/training is an asset
