The Advisor, Adult Protection Program possesses strong skills to guide and support Fraser Health’s (FH) clinical practice compliance with British Columbia’s adult guardianship legislation. The Advisor provides first tier response to FH staff and physicians regarding adult guardianship clinical practice obligations. The Advisor guides FH in meeting the complex care needs of vulnerable and incapable adults in the FH region. In collaboration with the Manager, Adult Protection Program, the Advisor identifies and meets the evolving needs of FH learners in the development of education and materials delivered online, virtually, and in person.
Responsibilities - Provides expertise, support and guidance to FH staff and physicians regarding adult guardianship legislation and related laws.
- Partners with internal stakeholders to maximize FH clinical practice compliance with adult guardianship legislation and related laws.
- Develops education, materials, and resources to support FH staff and physicians.
- Works in collaboration with the Manager, Adult Protection Program in the delivery of education to FH staff and physicians, and in the delivery of specialized and advanced practice education to FH designated responders.
- Collaborates with internal partners to develop, implement and evaluate FH programs, guidelines, and services for vulnerable and incapable adults.
- Identifies and advises the Manager of systems level issues that impact vulnerable and incapable adults.
- Develops policies and clinical practice guidelines that align with relevant adult guardianship legislation, regulations, and other provincial standards.
- Extracts and collates data, compiles statistics, and prepares reports.
- Tracks and monitors involuntary admissions under the Adult Guardianship Act (Section 59).
- Assists the Manager, Adult Protection Program to prepare and participate in court hearings with legal counsel.
- Monitors and responds to calls and emails received through the React Reporting line and email systems.
- Coordinates the Certificate of Incapability process under the Adult Guardianship Act. (Part 2.1).
- Liaises with external partners including the Office of the Seniors Advocate, Public Guardian and Trustee of BC, and Law Enforcement.
- Collaborates and liaises with other designated agencies as necessary.
- Identifies quality issues and recommends quality improvement initiatives to the Manager.
- Maintains an environment that values and promotes continuous learning through the planning, development, evaluation and delivery of education and services.
- Integrates research and best practice into the delivery of services to vulnerable and incapable adults.
- Represents the Adult Protection Program on various internal committees as assigned.
QualificationsEducation and Experience
Master's degree in Social Work plus five (5) years of recent related clinical experience working with BC’s adult guardianship legislation or similar legislation, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Current practicing registration with applicable regulatory body and/or membership in applicable professional association, as applicable.
Valid BC Driver's license and access to a personal vehicle for business-related purposes.
