Position: Senior Forensic Structural Engineer
Job Description
We have an immediate opening for a Senior Forensic Structural Engineer to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated engineer who enjoys variety, thrives on problem-solving, and is passionate about buildings, restoration, and forensic investigation.
You will assess damage caused by events such as fire, structural failure, vehicle and tree impact, and assist in determining cause and extent of damage. You'll also provide practical restoration recommendations and structural solutions, produce technical reports and drawings, and collaborate closely with our engineering and support staff.
A Day in the life of a Senior Forensic Structural Engineer at RocMar:
· Attend site to investigate structural failures or damage due to fire, impact, and other events;
· Collect detailed and accurate field notes, including photography and visual documentation;
· Analyze findings and collaborate with the team to determine cause and provide recommendations for repair and restoration;
· Prepare thorough reports, including findings, recommendations and specifications;
· Communicate with all stakeholders, including but not limited to clients, adjustors;
· Review and produce engineering drawings and specifications using Revit, AutoCAD, and related software.
· Ensure compliance of drawings with building codes and regulations;
· Assist lead engineers in construction site inspections and writing site inspection reports;
· Perform other technical functions in support of engineering activities.
What you Bring to the RocMar Team:
· Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering;
· P.Eng. designation in Ontario or EIT working toward licensure;
· Experience with OBC (Ontario Building Code) and NBCC (National Building Code of Canada) is required;
· 5+ years experience with the construction and design of residential, commercial and industrial buildings. With an emphasis on residential;
· 5+ years experience with wood, concrete, steel and masonry design, with an emphasis on wood;
· 5+ years of structural engineering experience in Canada (pre-grad experience considered);
· Proficiency in structural design software (SAP2000, ETABS, SAFE, WoodWorks, MASS), Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office;
· Experience with damage investigation and forensic analysis is an asset;
· Revit experience an asset;
· Excellent verbal and written English communication;
· Understanding of building construction processes, practices, and details;
· Adaptability to shifting priorities;
· Ability to transfer ideas from sketches to drawings, specifications, and reports;
· The desire to grow professionally and personally;
· Ability to work under pressure, manage and oversee multiple projects;
