The BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) provides provincial and national leadership in public health through surveillance, detection, prevention, and consultation. BCCDC collaborates with public health partners to identify and respond to BC's evolving public health priorities. The focus of the Immunization Programs and Vaccine Preventable Diseases Services (IPVPDS) includes immunization programs, vaccine preventable diseases, and invasive Group A Streptococcus disease through surveillance, policy development, and partner engagement.
The position is a permanent role for a Public Health Physician and a five-year renewable term for Medical Director. The roles involve providing medical leadership, developing strategic activities, supporting public health policies, and collaborating with various stakeholders to address emerging issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and implementation of public health policies and programs related to immunization and vaccine preventable diseases.
- Provide medical expertise, consultation, and support for disease surveillance, outbreak response, and program evaluation.
- Collaborate with communities, health authorities, and government agencies to address public health issues.
- Support quality improvement activities, ensure compliance with standards, and develop evidence-based outcomes and indicators.
- Contribute to research, training, and provincial program coordination.
Qualifications
- Eligible for licensure as a specialist in BC; RCPSC certification or equivalent in community medicine, public health, infectious diseases, or occupational medicine.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in public health fields such as epidemiology, toxicology, occupational health, or environmental health risk assessment.
- Deep knowledge of regulatory agencies, policies, and legislation relevant to public health.
- Strong communication, collaboration, budgeting, and quality control skills.
The successful candidate may receive a faculty appointment at the University of British Columbia, with rank determined by qualifications.
