We are currently seeking Student Nurse Externs to join our medicine and surgical programs.
Employment Status: Temporary Part-Time
Hours of Work: Rotating shifts, 8 or 12 hours, including days, evenings, nights, and weekends
Location: Humber River Health -- Wilson Site
Labour Group: Non-Union
Reporting Relationship: Manager, 13 West
Position Responsibilities:
The Student Nurse Extern role involves providing direct personal support to patients, assisting with basic care activities such as bathing, toileting, and feeding for up to 10 patients. Externs work under the supervision of Registered Nurses and Registered Practical Nurses, following department policies. They are responsible for documenting activities of daily living, such as intake and output, and communicating relevant information. Externs do not perform regulated acts like medication administration or vital signs but must report any clinical concerns immediately to their supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in years 2-4 of a nursing program
- Current CPR certification
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Team player with effective inter-professional communication abilities
- Understanding of technology use
- Ability to provide basic assistive care with supervision and mentorship from nursing staff
- Mandatory compliance with HRH training on Privacy \& Confidentiality, WHMIS, Fire \& Safety, and hand hygiene
- Good attendance and judgment skills in difficult situations
