Job Description:
The Manager of SQL Server Client, reporting to the Director of SQL Server Databases within Data Management Services [DMS], will oversee support and management of SQL Server and Sybase databases, leading a team of SQL Server DBAs. The role involves co-leading a multi-platform, multi-technology environment with tight deadlines, providing strategic guidance on enterprise-wide database platforms, supporting technologies, and processes.
This position requires providing management support to the SQL Server team, supporting initiatives, and identifying emerging technology trends. It includes retiring outdated technologies, ensuring regulatory compliance, and maintaining vendor and industry relations.
*Security clearance is required for this role [minimum of 5 consecutive years of residency in Canada] and compliance with investment trading disclosure.
What will you do?
- Mentor and manage SQL Server database administrators supporting client applications and projects.
- Have knowledge of SQL Server Engine, Data Management, and Business Intelligence tools (SSIS, SSMS, SSRS, SSAS) for SQL 2016 or newer.
- Mentor staff with varying skills in a multi-platform environment.
- Participate in annual employee performance reviews.
- Guide employees on career development, training, and growth.
- Support the management of critical SQL Server and Sybase databases, including performance monitoring, query tuning, and capacity planning.
- Collaborate with architects and infrastructure teams to refine database strategies and participate in architectural projects.
- Lead support for crisis management, business continuity, disaster recovery, and incident response globally.
- Ensure compliance with company policies on audit and security.
- Work closely with various functional areas to support database requirements.
- Contribute to Data Management Services' budget planning based on client application demand.
- Coordinate with application owners to deliver database solutions.
- Engage with Business Unit leaders to leverage new database technologies for business growth.
- Support technological improvements in reporting and database activities without impacting performance or data integrity.
What do you need to succeed?
- Expertise in SQL Server and other DBMS, especially Microsoft SQL Server and Sybase.
- Strong leadership, management, presentation, consulting, negotiation, communication, and organizational skills.
- Experience with employee performance evaluations.
- Knowledge of DevOps and automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Jenkins).
- Business acumen and understanding of application and infrastructure technologies.
- Ability to build relationships across all management levels.
- Clear and concise communication skills.
- Self-motivated, strategic, and innovative mindset.
- Valuing diverse opinions and consensus-building skills.
- Experience with Agile and Waterfall methodologies.

Successful candidates must obtain a Government of Canada Reliability Status security clearance and meet background check requirements.
The salary range is CAD 84,000 to CAD 138,000, depending on location and experience. Benefits include incentive plans based on performance and sales results.
