As the Manager, Public Affairs, reporting to the Director, Public Affairs, you will work closely with the public affairs and communications teams as you build and strengthen positive working relationships with the provincial governments (including the relevant regulatory agencies), helping to author and communicate compelling public policy recommendations in support of the mortgage industry. As the ideal candidate you are a quick learner with a bias to action, outcomes, and impact.
You either have experience working in a legislature/parliament or a position where you worked directly with elected officials in an advocacy or advisory role. This role will also serve as the association's regional ambassador for our growing membership base by responding proactively to member questions around the GR issues that impact our industry. Key ResponsibilitiesMonitor and manage public policy issues of concern to the mortgage and housing industry across the provinces, consistent with the strategic direction provided by the association's Director of Public AffairsCoordinate cross-jurisdictional advocacy efforts on GR and policy files as appropriate.
Assist and prepare industry submissions on government relations issues to legislative committees, Ministers, and other decision-making bodies. Build and maintain relationships with elected officials and public servants within provincial governments, and help establish trusted relationships on behalf of the association with key decision-makersPursue cooperative and collaborative relations with like-minded business associations across the provinces on public policy issues of common concern. Work collaboratively with the Marketing, Communications, Membership, Events, and Education departments to ensure consistency of position and align on key messages.
Ability to work independently, making timely decisions to involve the Director, Public Affairs in policy meetings/lobbying. Proactively monitor issues of concern to the mortgage and housing industry across the country and develop narratives/key messages for use by the CEO, Board, and membership (as necessary) in order to maintain a favourable business environment and protect association reputation and brand. Develop and implement external communications strategies and plans to effectively communicate MPC's public policy positions to key stakeholders (including media, industry allies, all levels of government, Canadian consumers).
Coordinate media relations and media requests as they come in; developing relationships with key media contacts with a high level of comfort pitching stories, op-eds, etc.
