We are looking for a Senior Business Affairs Manager to join our production agency client in Toronto. This person will oversee all aspects of business affairs for integrated commercial, social, promotional, and experiential projects. You should bring deep knowledge of Canadian business/legal production guidelines and talent usage (ACTRA/SAG), along with experience reviewing creative for clearance, negotiating talent/vendor agreements, managing third-party rights, and navigating network clearance(ThinkTV).
Bonus points for experience with U.S. clients, influencer/celebrity agreements, and tools like NetSuite and Extreme Reach. Key Responsibilities:
- Manage business affairs for integrated commercial, promotional, experiential, and social projects
- Advise on talent contracts, usage rights, and union/nonunion production best practices (SAG/ACTRA)
- Negotiate and manage agreements with talent, content creators, vendors, licensors, and partners
- Ensure compliance with client MSAs, SOWs, and production legal requirements
- Review creative concepts for legal, budget, and feasibility implications
- Clear third-party rights, including UGC and branded content
- Support producers through all production phases: bidding, estimating, compliance, issue resolution, and closeout
- Manage production paperwork: contracts, insurance, releases, and third-party agreements
- Handle billing, revenue posting, job actualization, and client invoicing in collaboration with finance
- Oversee network clearance and liaise with clearance partners
- Generate and manage talent residual estimates and budgets
- Track usage terms, renewals, and talent licensing timelines
- File reports and manage paymaster submissions using platforms like Extreme Reach AdBridge
- Provide business affairs support for internal productions
- Onboard/offboard clients and maintain organized contract/licensing records
- Mentor Business Affairs team and educate producers/coordinators on processes
- Work within client-specified platforms and systems
- Stay current on industry trends and proactively suggest process improvements
