The Dean's Office in the Werklund School of Education invites applications for a Program Coordinator, IRC. This Part-time, Fixed-Term position is for approximately 2 years (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension. This role is 17.5 hours per week (0.5 FTE).
The Indigenous Research Circle (IRC) is a gathering space that showcases community-based projects led by Indigenous researchers and community partners. The research is co-designed and co-led by the Indigenous communities and/or participants the research serves. This hub links students, scholars, and communities to opportunities for learning, collaboration, and inspiration. The IRC provides a pathway for discovery and connection for students seeking to engage in impactful research, Indigenous communities exploring what's possible, and scholars looking to get involved in community-based research.
Reporting to the Principal Investigator, the Program Coordinator, IRC will oversee the onboarding and programming of undergraduate and graduate students connected to the IRC. The Program Coordinator, IRC will support the students who are matched with Indigenous researchers. They will host monthly meetings throughout the academic year, share information about related events and opportunities, and provide students with ongoing support.
This role will be part of the One Child Every Child Program, a Canada First Research Excellence Fund (CFREF) initiative, with a vision for all Canadian children to be the healthiest, most empowered and thriving in the world.
One Child Every Child is a Parallel Paths project that has Indigenous and non-Indigenous Paths. All members of the program will perform training on work with Indigenous people, communities and data. Experience with Indigenous community-based work is an asset for members of the OCEC research team.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
- Facilitate presentations within the IRC and other research bodies at University of Calgary.
- Providing mentorship to Indigenous youth in communities.
- Professional learning and development surrounding research with Indigenous peoples.
- Optional contributions to research related to the IRC.
- Organization of data from feedback received by the IRC.
- Demonstrated ability to include diverse perspectives and experiences, in order to build relationships and work effectively with diverse communities across a variety of settings.
- A high level of flexibility and ability to adapt to changing workloads and priorities is required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong time management, analytical and interpersonal skills.
- Explains difficult or sensitive information.
- Solves problems in straightforward situations and escalates more complex problems.
Qualifications / Requirements:
- An undergraduate degree in education, social work, social science or Indigenous studies.
- 3-5 years of related work experience; A combination of education and equivalent community-based research experience will also be considered.
- Interest in and understanding of Indigenous community-based research.
- Proficient in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook Mail and Calendar).
- Evidence of developed organizational skills.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to write clearly and concisely.
- Ability to work independently, while supporting the IRC¿s priorities.
- Ability to work effectively with teams to achieve agreed-upon goals.
- Develop and maintain a respectful and positive working relationship with University of Calgary staff and collaborators.
- Superior interpersonal skills are required in dealing with a range of situations, which may include complex, sensitive and confidential issues.
- Be resourceful, innovative, creative, and strategic in problem-solving with high attention to detail.
- Understanding of the policies and protocols of the University of Calgary, and of OCEC's mission, values, and plans.
