Senior Staff Scientist (AI for Chemistry)
Aplin is partnering with the University of Toronto to recruit a Senior Staff Scientist specializing in AI for Chemistry. This role is based at the Faculty of Arts \& Science, Acceleration Consortium, St. George campus, Toronto.
The Acceleration Consortium (AC) is pioneering a shift in scientific discovery through AI, robotics, and high-throughput chemistry to create self-driving laboratories (SDLs) for rapid materials and molecule development addressing societal challenges like climate change and health.
This position focuses on SDL2---Organic Small Molecules---developing ML tools for accelerating synthesis and discovery, leveraging cheminformatics and generative models to design molecules, predict reactions, and optimize materials for sustainability, healthcare, or energy.
Qualifications include a Ph.D. in a relevant field, over 10 years of experience in cheminformatics and R\&D, and expertise in AI and automation. Additional skills desired are programming, data management, and organic chemistry experience. The role involves developing hardware/software for SDLs, managing labs, leading research programs, and collaborating with industry partners and academic teams.
Key responsibilities include SDL development, facility management, research leadership, and collaborative project management. The position offers a salary between $150K and $180K, with priority given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents.
