To help fulfill its mission, LOFT is hiring a Relief -- Personal Support Worker.
Job Summary
The Personal Support Worker will attend to the physical, cognitive, mental health, and social/recreational needs of eligible residents living at the Shoreham Hub in a way that enhances their dignity and personal empowerment. This involves providing support with personal activities of daily living to facilitate a normalized lifestyle for clients and assist them in gaining skills required to live in lower-level supportive housing within the community.
What You Will Do
- Support the physical and mental health requirements of clients.
- Establish rapport with clients that supports their dignity, encourages personal empowerment, and addresses their psychosocial, behavior, and medical needs.
- Support clients with medication reminders and adhere to medication procedures.
- Monitor and support clients with medical problems, record illnesses, and liaise with medical professionals for emergencies.
- Assist clients with daily living activities such as dressing, hygiene, ambulation, toileting, meal preparation, and shopping.
- Maintain a clean and orderly living space for clients.
- Support clients with behavioral and cognitive issues.
- Provide social support and facilitate community engagement.
- Maintain accurate records of care and behaviors.
- Participate in meetings to develop and follow support goals.
- Ensure safety and security, and respond to emergencies appropriately.
- Manage equipment and supplies, report damages, and participate in program activities.
- Transport clients for appointments and activities, leading outings as required.
- Perform other delegated responsibilities.
What You Bring
Must Haves
- Understanding of harm reduction and psychosocial rehabilitation principles.
- Relevant degree/diploma in human services.
- At least two years of experience with the client population.
- Knowledge of issues faced by adults with special needs, including addictions and cognitive impairments.
- Ability to build therapeutic relationships and negotiate goals.
- Teamwork and group facilitation skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and counseling skills.
- Problem-solving and crisis intervention skills.
- Computer literacy for record-keeping.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
Nice-to-Haves
- Cultural competency and anti-oppression knowledge.
- Experience with multi-barriered groups.
- Spanish language skills.
