Summary of Duties:
Under supervision, operate and maintain backhoe/excavator for sewer and water maintenance, assist with installation and repair of watermains, water services, fire hydrants, valve chambers, and other related systems. Perform laboring duties and operate construction equipment such as air compressors, pavement breakers, pipe cutting saws, and more.
Responsibilities include:
- Operating backhoe/excavator for installation and repairs
- Loading trucks with excavated materials and supplies
- Clearing snow, removing debris, and managing site safety measures
- Assisting maintenance crews and operating various tools and equipment
- Performing preventative maintenance and recording service activities
- Driving trucks and performing labor tasks as needed
- Supporting emergency responses and working in outdoor environments
Qualifications:
- Experience operating a backhoe in utility work, especially in urban settings
- Experience in the water industry is an asset
- Ability to follow detailed procedures, interpret diagrams, and perform basic math
- Valid DZ driver's license required
- Operator-in-Training certificate in Water Distribution or ability to obtain within six months
- Grade 12 diploma or equivalent
- Ability to operate heavy equipment including loaders, backhoes, excavators, and dump trucks
- Knowledge of Highway Traffic Act related to hauling
- Willingness to work shifts, respond to emergencies, and work outdoors in all weather conditions
Additional Notes:
- Must provide proof of valid Class DZ driver's license after hire
- Must have a clean driver's abstract
