Flexible Work Agreement Type Hybrid / Hybride Posting End Date 2025-05-27 Job Grade PIPSC-4 Pay Range $127,829 - $160,581 Job Summary • As an Engineer in an Engineering Specialty Air Traffic Management and Communications Navigation and Surveillance (ATM and CNS) or Sub-Specialty Section, the Senior Systems Engineer is accountable for applying technical knowledge in preparing plans and designs, completing large Engineering projects, providing advice and technical leadership for life-cycle management of the systems and equipment for digital visual surveillance solutions to enhance and provide Air Traffic Services (ATS). • The Senior Systems Engineer is a fully qualified Engineer with a thorough specialized knowledge of systems in the Specialty / Sub–specialty area of responsibility. This knowledge is supplemented with significant experience working with the systems in the field environment through design, installation and life-cycle support, and incorporates a thorough understanding of system interrelationships and operational use. Job Description What NAV CANADA offers you: Challenging, team-oriented work environment Competitive compensation and benefits Defined benefit pension plan Opportunities for growth and development Flexible work arrangements Diverse and inclusive workforce Key Accountabilities: • Provides technical support for national capital program development and formulation of national strategies to meet operational needs • Develops plans to meet project or site-specific requirements • Prepares detailed plans, system designs, and specifications for the provision and implementation of electronic systems to meet operational, technical and safety requirements • Oversees the planning, organizing, coordination, monitoring for the project design, procurement, installation, and maintenance of Remote Aerodrome Visual Systems (RAVS). • Provides advice and guidance to NAV CANADA officials, the federal government and industry concerning engineering requirements and related NAV CANADA standards for ATS visual surveillance systems. • Manages large multi-disciplined projects with dollar values usually less than $500K, but occasionally in the $500K to $1M range • Provides prompt assistance when requested to investigate technical problems with in-service operational systems • Actively promotes a Safety and Quality culture within the Specialty which ultimately will be reflected in the quality of the finished product delivered to the client group Job Requirements Education: • Degree in Engineering, Information Technology or related field from a recognized University. • Professional Certification: Member or eligible to be a member in a Professional Engineering Association in Canada. Experience: • Minimum 5 years work experience in the planning, design and implementation of safety or mission critical systems • Extensive experience delivering medium to large scale projects without close supervision • Extensive experience with system documentation and working with clients to gather requirements/design specs • Extensive experience in CNS or ATM systems • Experience with various Operating Systems including MS Windows and Linux. Knowledge: • A strong knowledge of systems and equipment which are the responsibility of Surveillance engineering, more specifically ATS visual surveillance systems. • Overall knowledge of camera and video technology for the application of providing ATS. • Understanding camera operation, performance, and limitations in varying environmental conditions. • Knowledge of video streaming, compression, frame rate, bandwidth usage, resolution, and bitrates. • Knowledge of Camera and image configuration settings such as Exposure, Aperture, Focus, White Balance, Focal Length, Field of View, etc. • Knowledge of how display settings such as Backlight, Contrast, Brightness, Sharpness, Motion enhancement, Power, Gamma, White Balance, Color Temperature, Motion Lighting, and more affect real world performance. • Knowledge of International standards and regulations such as EUROCAE, ICAO, and CANSO for ATS provision with visual surveillance solutions. • A thorough knowledge and demonstrated skills in project management methodologies, techniques, and disciplines for large projects Abilities: • Ability to write technical specifications, standards, statements of work and general engineering documents. • Ability to work under pressure, prioritize and manage multiple priorities with tight or conflicting deadlines in an environment of multiple priorities. • Ability to research potential development solutions and best practices and learn new technologies, domains, and tools quickly. • Ability to analyse and synthesize technical information, interpret the results of studies, develop strategies, and provide recommendations to a technical and non-technical audience. • Creative and innovative approach to solving problems. • Communicate effectively with cross functional teams internally and externally.
