The Position
Lift is seeking two Summer Student Support Assistants. Reporting to the Community House Coordinator the Support Assistants will work with the Community Resource Centre and Family Place staff in a daily drop-in environment for marginalized members of our community, including those facing poverty, homelessness, ageism and health issues. These programs provide meals, coffee, networking, resources and supports.
The Support Assistants will work collaboratively with program managers and staff, and must be dedicated to working with a lens of anti-oppression, anti-racism, and trauma-informed practice.

Key Tasks and Competencies
In collaboration with staff, identifies gaps in client services available within the community and coordinates or delivers appropriate resources/workshops/programs
Distributes information about the centre and its programs
Maintains knowledge of other community services and programs, and referral procedures
Problem solves with clients to assist them in overcoming challenges in their lives
Refers clients to other services as required
Shares, reports and updates co-workers on community development activities and other such activities impacting client services
Helps plan and support special events at the centre
Receives patrons, offers tours to describe available services and fosters a welcoming and comfortable environment
Assists with laundry and computer usage and other patron services
Assists in preparing snacks/light meals and ensures food is available to patrons as required
Monitors and supports patrons in maintaining appropriate behaviour as outlined in the Centre’s code of conduct
Monitors cafe computers and arranges for technical assistance as required
Qualifications
Foodsafe Level 1
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong organizational and time management skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Social justice and empathetic approach to supporting individuals and families facing barriers in community, e.g., poverty, unemployment, homelessness, substance use challenges, mental health challenges.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
This role includes travel between our various locations
Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required
