Position Summary: The In-Homemaker assists clients with the activities of daily living to promote maximum independence and wellness. This involves doing assigned housekeeping duties and home management activities, including light meal preparations, and performs duties in accordance with client planning, policies and procedures of in home care assistance for Musqueam elders and people with mobility challenges. This position reports all administrative issues and needs to the Social Development Officer. This position reports all other employment or client-centred concerns or needs to the Social Development Manager. Roles & Responsibilities Assists individuals and families in establishing and maintaining self-sufficiency and independence by following their established care plan; Provides personal assistance as outlined in the Social Development Department's personal assistance guidelines; Performs housekeeping tasks, including cleaning, laundry, vacuuming, mopping, and sweeping, and light meal preparation, in order to maintain efficient upkeep and healthy living environment standards in the home; Observes client behaviour, and reports changes or concerns to the Social Development Manager; Observes the behaviour, appearance and condition of clients and their household members, in order to maintain safe and supportive care of those clients in their own home - and reports any changes to the Social Development Manager. Must maintain a strict confidentiality of client information gained as a result of the employment relationship. Exchange of any client or community information cannot occur without the authorization of the Social Development Manager; Maintains current knowledge of and complies with all In-Home Care policies and procedures within the Social Development department; Works as a team member with professional staff; Attends in-service and staff development meetings as required; and Performs other related duties as required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Qualifications Grade 10, plus Provincial Home Support Certificate, or an equivalent combination of education, training and life experience. Knowledge and experience of similar program delivery in the context of Musqueam or First Nations culture and history. Knowledge of geriatric and mobility issues and behaviour. Ability to use tact and good judgement in dealing with sensitive and complex client issues and health needs; Ability to deal with clients and colleagues effectively and respectfully; Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; Ability to organize work effectively using time management skills to complete shift tasks on time; Physical ability to perform the duties of the job; Ability to maintain strict client confidentiality; Ability to operate related equipment and supplies for the job; Successful Criminal Records Check; Basic First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain); and WHMIS Certificate (or willingness to obtain). Working Conditions Work is performed in client home, and necessary supplies gathered in identified shared office space/storage space in Musqueam Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle for work purposes is an asset - or must have ability to walk to client homes to arrive for scheduled work.
