Position Summary:
Reporting directly to the Client Service Manager, the Registered Nurse (RN) is a regulated member of the interprofessional health care team who is responsible for completing comprehensive client assessments, developing and implementing client plans/care that address both physical and psycho-social care needs. This position monitors on-going client care and condition to ensure optimum functioning and assumes professional accountability for complex/unstable clients. This position administers prescribed medications, supervises the delivery of medications by unregulated staff and collaborates with the interdisciplinary team. The registered nurse teaches, counsels and advocates to enhance health and well being of clients and families. The focus and core of all nursing practice is the provision of direct care to clients. Four domains are identifiable within the profession of nursing: clinical practice, administration, education and research.
Key roles in clinical practice include: direct care provider, critical thinker, assessor and interpreter, coordinator of care, planner and evaluator, participant, developer and/or leader in quality improvement activities, decision maker and problem solver, case manager, client advocate, leader and mentor (College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta [CARNA], Scope of Practice for Registered Nurses, 2011). The nurse performs restricted activities and provides care to the needs of the client population and the service delivery system/model of care.
In keeping with Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) Code of Ethics, CARNA’s Nursing Practice Standards and Guidelines, Carewest’s Frame of Reference, Philosophy of Care, and Carewest’s policies this position maintains professional and ethical standards at all times. The demonstration of leadership is critical for success in this position. Responsible for other related duties as required.
Program Summary:
Rehabilitation and Community Transition Program (RCTP) – a short-stay restorative care program that supports medically stable adults who do not need an acute-care level of service, but may require additional assessment, recuperation, and therapy before returning to the community
Qualifications & Experience:
- Graduation from a recognized nursing program
- BScN is preferred
- CNA Certification an asset (e.g. Gerontology, Rehabilitation, Hospice and Palliative Nursing)
- Current and active registration with CARNA required
- Current and active Basic Life Support Provider CPR is required.
- 3 years nursing experience is preferred
- Demonstrated leadership skills required.
