The Custodian Lead is responsible for daily custodial operations at The Gathering Place, ensuring high-quality cleaning and sanitization across all sites. In addition to regular custodial duties, the Lead supports the team on shift, coordinates tasks, manages supplies, and enforces safety standards. The role fosters a safe, respectful environment for Guests, staff, and volunteers by demonstrating professionalism, diligence, and a strong work ethic.
What You’ll Do
Lead the custodial team on shift, ensuring timely, thorough cleaning.
Oversee cleaning plans, especially in high-traffic/touch areas.
Assist with onboarding and informal training of new staff.
Communicate with Facilities Manager on maintenance, supplies, and schedules.
Ensure proper use and stocking of supplies per WHMIS and safety standards.
Adjust schedules and delegate during absences or high-demand periods.
Perform daily cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting tasks.
Maintain professional conduct in Guest areas, aligned with organizational values.
Act as the contact for urgent cleaning or safety issues during shift.
Promote and uphold health and safety procedures.
What You Bring
Minimum 2 years’ custodial experience, ideally in institutional/community settings.
Leadership or team coordination experience is an asset.
WHMIS training and chemical safety knowledge.
Excellent attention to detail, time management, and task coordination.
Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform active cleaning duties.
Effective, calm communicator in Guest-centered settings.
Reliable, self-motivated, and confident in decision-making.
Clear Record of Conduct and Vulnerable Sector Check required.
Equivalent education/experience may be considered.
Candidates must have a satisfactory performance and attendance record, which will be considered during the selection process.
