The Role
This is your chance to build something from scratch.
We’re launching a bold new content strategy at Neo that brings fresh, clear, and compelling storytelling to financial topics that matter most to Canadians. As our first Managing Editor, you won’t just run a content team. You’ll help define the editorial voice, grow our audience, and build an influential destination from the ground up.
You’ll shape what great content looks like at Neo, create editorial systems that scale, and bring big ideas to life. If you’ve dreamed of having a blank canvas and the backing to build something meaningful—this is that role.
What you'll be doing:
Editorial Strategy & Planning
Partner with senior leaders to define and deliver a smart, scalable content strategy aligned with business goals.
Own the editorial calendar, ensuring a steady cadence of timely, insightful, and search-optimized content across various platforms. (e.g., website, blog, newsletters, social media)
Identify content gaps and audience opportunities across Neo’s key verticals (credit, savings, financial literacy, etc.).
Keep a pulse on trends, competitors, and cultural moments that Neo should be part of.
Content Production & Quality Control
Oversee the end-to-end content process: from pitch to publish.
Edit for clarity, voice, accuracy, and SEO—raising the bar for every piece we publish.
Maintain editorial standards and ensure brand consistency across all platforms.
Review and approve final content across blog, email, social, and more.
Team Leadership & Management
Lead a nimble team of in-house and freelance writers and editors.
Provide clear briefs, feedback, and mentorship to help the team grow and succeed.
Cultivate a high-performance culture that values creativity, accountability, and editorial excellence.
Help identify and onboard new contributors as we grow.
Workflow & Operational Excellence
Build and optimize editorial workflows to ensure we ship high-quality content on time.
Solve problems, unblock teammates, and keep content moving forward.
Help select and manage the tools, templates, and processes that make our publishing engine hum.
Performance & Insights
Track and report on content performance using analytics tools (e.g., GA4, social insights).
Use data to guide content strategy, prioritize topics, and sharpen what’s working.
Regularly report progress to key stakeholders and adjust strategy based on results.
Cross-functional Collaboration
Partner with growth, product, PR, creative, and community teams to align messaging and amplify reach.
Ensure content supports broader business goals—from product launches to PR campaigns.
Who we are looking for:
A seasoned editorial leader with a sharp editorial eye and a bias for action.
Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, English, or related field.
Editorial experience
Excellent writer and editor who can adapt tone and structure to fit different formats and goals.
Proven track record of managing content teams, calendars, and deadlines with precision.
Strong grasp of SEO, analytics, and content strategy fundamentals.
Experience in fintech, personal finance, or a similarly complex subject area is a plus.
Skilled in working across functions and comfortable in a fast-moving, startup environment.
