This posting is for one temporary full-time position up to 12 months
Working in the Emergency Services Department at Strathcona County, the Accounting Assistant is responsible for the support of accounting and supply chain management activities, specifically accounts payable, accounts receivable, purchase order and employee expense functions. With meticulous attention to detail, this role reviews expenditures for accuracy, timeliness and adherence to corporate policies and procedures. The accounting assistant provides valuable support to the accounting team by assisting with reoccurring journal entries, offering reporting support and day-to-day accounting activities.
Key Responsibilities:
Point of contact for department supply chain management payment and invoice inquiries
Run and review monthly PO reports to distribute to requisitioners
Process one time payments and non-PO invoices using applicable corporate forms
Create monthly reports to further investigate and resolve variances
Review quarterly and year-end open PO's to support the accountants
Respond to both vendors, corporate payables and department staff on enquiries relating to outstanding invoices and payments
Support the departments invoice processing and monitor billable events using department systems
Act as a liaison for billing inquiries between the department and corporate accounts receivable
Provide guidance to department staff on how to navigate Oracle business processes
Communicate with procurement services on various procurement inquiries such as processing change orders and troubleshooting on purchase requisition and/or receiving issues
Assist the Emergency Services finance team with various general accounting tasks such as employee expense reviews, general ledger coding, journal entries, spreadsheets and reports, and supporting general accounting and finance duties when required
Qualifications and Skills:
Minimum of a High School Diploma and 5 years related experience
General accounting knowledge is required
Working knowledge and experience in Microsoft office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Exceptional communication and problem-solving skills to work collaboratively in a team environment and contribute to corporate culture
Experience in a municipal or emergency services organization is an asset
Experience with Oracle and SharePoint would be considered an asset
High attention to detail and excellent time management skills with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and navigate through shifting priorities
