BASIC FUNCTION:
· Plan, coordinate, and manage all aspects of the concrete scope for each project.
· Collaborate with the Construction Project Manager to develop and maintain schedules, budgets, and work plans.
· Provide direct oversight to concrete foremen, subcontractors, and sub-labor crews, ensuring alignment with project goals.
· Ensure concrete operations meet or exceed quality standards and comply with project specifications.
· Enforce and promote a strong safety culture across all field operations in accordance with company policy and WorkSafeBC/OSHA standards.
· Monitor the field team’s needs, ensuring crews have the correct tools, materials, equipment, and information to perform their work efficiently.
· Coordinate concrete material orders, equipment rentals, and deliveries to maintain production timelines.
· Conduct routine site walks and inspections to verify quality, productivity, and safety compliance.
· Identify and resolve issues proactively to avoid project delays or rework.
· Support Estimators with expert knowledge of materials and production methods to inform project cost proposals.
· Participate in project planning and coordination meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
· Build strong relationships with vendors, suppliers, engineers, and field personnel.
DUTIES:
The following are the primary duties:
Pre-Production:
· Review site plans thoroughly, discuss any possible issues with PM, make a material plan and preorder long lead items.
· Coordinate with PM to estimate concrete scope schedule & crew requirements for entire project
· Add project hours to Long Term Schedule
· Provide input with the PM regarding the project budget and organization of the job components.
· Ensure tools / materials are ready for project mobilization
· Assess site readiness and confirmation of onsite measurement. Inform PM of any discrepancies.
· Lead Concrete FM handoff
Production:
· Keep Concrete tab on long term schedule up to date.
· Ensure site measurements are taken and confirmed to ensure accuracy for material orders.
· Ensure concrete materials are ordered as required
· Approve layout, follow up on base prep for accuracy
· Coordinate mobilization of tools and materials to site
· Provide weekly schedule to concrete FM and Subs, update as required & oversee day to day operations
· Understand pace targets and set expectations with crew and subcontractors.
· Review progress against project schedule/budget; take action to continue or mitigate trends.
· Keep vehicles clean and maintained to brand standards
· Oversee onsite formwork quality, utilize the QC checklist prior to every pour. Ensure concrete quantity measurements are confirmed prior to order.
· Coordinate between site FM & Project Coordinator all aspects of pour day scheduling and quality assurance.
· Inspect completed & finished work. Ensure it meets quality standards.
· Ensure form stripping and demobilization of tools & materials are organized and carried out
· Maintain a clean and organized job site.
· Ensure all Houston Landscapes' policies are being adhered to (uniforms, recycling, cell use, etc.).
Post Production
· Manage all deficiency requests as required and issued by PM/Dir. MF Construction and ensure timely completion of deficiencies.
Communication
· Forward and/or copy the VP Construction / Project Manager on all email correspondence (ie: if an email is sent only to you and was not copied to the PM, directly forward that email to the PM, ensure all emails you write are copied to the PM.)
· Summarize any text or verbal requests in an email to the VP Construction / PM to maintain a paper trail.
· Email any schedule changes to the Dir. MF Construction Construction / PM as they arise.
· Update PM via email of any T&M requests and/or define any change requests as either T&M or OSCO
· In conjunction with site Foreman, answer client and consultant questions as you’re able to, direct them to PM for any issues outside of project scope and/or dealing with budget or major schedule changes
· Request any advice or administrative assistance as required from the office at any time.
Analysis & Reporting:
· Support Estimators with timely estimate review of concrete scope and offer insights, review contract & confirm scope of work
· Review Project Completion and project Profit and Loss reports/statements upon completion of project, provide insight to mitigate or continue trends.
Financial:
· Code and hand in all project receipts and deliver slips to AP Clerk on a weekly basis.
· Ensure daily labour is tracked in Pro Contractor and timely coding of invoices/receipts
Leadership & Management:
· Ensure that Houston Landscapes’ core values are being met on each project.
· Discipline crews with verbal warnings regarding performance and/or attendance.
· Elevate disciplinary issues as required to VP Construction / Project Manager or HR Manager and/or requests for written documentation and/or dismissal.
· Train and mentor Foremen and Assistant Foreman with the goal of preparing them to grow in role or advance to next role.
Meetings:
· Attend and participate in the monthly Team Forum.
· Attend project handoff meeting for projects with concrete scope
· Attend weekly PM meeting
· Attend site meetings as requested including Client/Concrete introduction meeting
· Attend and participate in the project completion review meeting.
Process Improvements:
· Improve, create and implement new systems for Houston Landscapes including development of procedures.
General:
· Participate in performance evaluations of staff.
· Seek knowledge of trade at all opportunities to expand skillset.
· Perform other duties as required.
· Attend company functions.
· Complete assigned action items on time.
· Assist in the organization of the yard and warehouse spaces as required and requested by yard manager.
· Ensure detailed instructions on everything you're handling be given to Assistant Foremen or replacement prior to going on holiday or being unavailable.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The following are the primary qualifications for this position:
Education
· High School diploma or equivalent experience.
· Carpentry designation and/or other trade specific diploma, certificate or training a bonus.
Experience
· Min 5 years experience in concrete construction.
· Min 2 years experience as a Foreman/Onsite Project Manager with a previous company with project size experience over $100,000.
Technical
· Can read and interpret architectural and landscape drawings, specifications, and details.
· Strong knowledge of form requirements and quality assurance
· Strong understanding of concrete mix designs and their applications
General
· Must have a valid Class 5 driver's license and be comfortable operating all size trucks in Class 5
· Strong computer skills, including MS Office.
· Ability to coach and mentor direct reports.
