JOB PURPOSE
The Director of Human Resources is a critical new role designed to help support the company’s rapid growth trajectory and drive continued business success through people and culture.
Reporting to the EVP, Managing Director, the Director of HR will partner with senior executives to design and execute forward-thinking talent strategies that power its business priorities. The Director will combine HR and commercial acumen and bring a strong grasp of market and workforce trends along with a data-driven mindset to help Blackstone stay ahead in a rapidly evolving hybrid work landscape. The Director of HR will oversee the career development of an existing HR Manager with the expectation of expanding the HR team as the company grows.
As a key architect of organizational culture and performance, the Director of HR will lead transformative initiatives, and foster an inclusive, engaged, and high-performing workforce. They will be responsible for developing a multi-year HR plan with some of the immediate priorities being the:
Creation of a job evaluation system with defined job descriptions, salary ranges and bonus targets,
Refinement of the Performance Management program,
Creation of a Training and Development strategy by department,
Overall guidance on talent management, recruitment and retention strategies,
Updating contractual obligations based on the most recent ESA standards and legislation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Organizational Design and Job Evaluation System (30%)
Direct an organizational planning process that evaluates company structure, job design, and human resource forecasting throughout the company.
Evaluate and develop Blackstone’s team structure, alongside the company’s executive team, that is most suitable for the organization’s strategy and objectives.
Develop a job evaluation system and detailed job profiles for each role, along with corresponding salary and bonus ranges; ensure these are properly communicated across the organization.
Compensation and Benefits (20%)
Continue to build an equitable and effective rewards structure, including compensation, bonus & benefits.
Ensure the rewards structure maintains compliance with legal requirements, including pay equity and internal ESG wage commitments
Measure the effectiveness of the total rewards structure using appropriate metrics.
Recommend changes to the total rewards structure to leadership based on collected data and information.
Performance Management (20%)
Review, analyze, collaborate on, develop/recommend, and implement changes to the performance management process using the Bamboo HR platform.
Train managers on how to monitor performance against goals to ensure that progress is being made, and that corrective action is taken if necessary.
Coach leaders on how to address gaps between individual performance and expectations and how to provide effective and constructive feedback to direct reports.
Employee Experience (20%)
Focus on creating a positive and engaging work environment that attracts and retains top talent, including an engaging employee onboarding experience and employee relations.
Lead employee engagement initiatives (including surveys), program development, work culture enhancement, consensus-building, and internal communications.
Develop and maintain employee recognition
Recommend, develop and lead efforts to support wellness systems
Continue to develop and implement team building and social events to increase employee engagement and retention.
Investigate (as required) and provide resolutions for employee relations problems and workplace
Ensure that health and safety programs are maintained and up to date, including employee mental health and well-being initiatives.
Champion the efforts of the Company’s DEI+B Committee through participation and refinements.
Build a training and development plan (by department) for senior leaders and managers to continue to build their skills and capabilities and optimize everyone’s contribution to Company goals.
Policy and Program Development (10%)
Ensure all company policies, programs and practices are compliant with applicable employment legislation. Engage with the Company’s legal team as required.
Provide guidance to management and employees in the interpretation and application of Company policies, procedures, and employment legislation and laws, as well as implementing new policies themselves.
Ensure the Employee Handbook is up-to-date and reflects organizational and legislative requirements and/or changes. Ensure regular communication with staff about policy changes.
Lead the rollout of new policies and programs to ensure team understanding and adoption.
QUALIFICATIONS:
University or college degree in HR or related field and a minimum of 8+ years of HR leadership experience; CHRP/CHRL designation preferred
Proven experience as a Human Resources generalist with a strong background in performance management & employee relations. Strong overall knowledge of HR best practices in different industries.
Thorough knowledge of the Ontario Employment Standards, Human Rights Code, and other employment-related
Proven leadership and coaching
Strong communication skills in all areas: written, verbal, and You present things in easy to understand, visually impactful ways.
Excellent interpersonal skills and proven ability to build strong relationships at all levels within the organization and with external stakeholders. Able to handle sensitive and difficult issues in a confidential and empathetic manner.
