Job Summary Job Description What is the opportunity? As Director & Managing Counsel – Global Markets, you will provide highly specialized expert transactional and advisory legal services to, and manage complex legal, regulatory and reputational risks for, trading and related Global Markets businesses of RBC Capital Markets, including its equity derivatives, structured notes, futures and securities finance businesses. You will assess the impact of laws and regulations that affect the activities of Global Markets businesses in order to manage legal, regulatory and reputational risks in everyday operations and the development and delivery of new and existing financial products and solutions that contribute to the financial results of the enterprise. What will your responsibilities be? Providing primary legal support for trading and related Global Markets businesses of RBC Capital Markets, including electronic equities trading, listed options, equity derivatives, structured notes, futures, securities lending and repo/reverse repo agreements. Inspiring confidence within all levels of Capital Markets with respect to the independent identification and successful management of legal and reputational risk. Partnering with RBC Capital Markets Compliance, Operations, Risk and other functional areas to ensure oversight and control over supported businesses and implement enterprise level projects. What do you need to succeed? Must-have Law Degree and qualification to practice law in Ontario (in good standing), with at least seven or more years of relevant legal experience. Comprehensive knowledge of capital markets trading activities (e.g., execution, clearing, and settlement of securities transactions; market making activities; electronic trading and direct market access; registration requirements; exempt issuer bids) and products (e.g., futures and other listed and OTC derivatives; structured and deposit notes; equities; ETFs; securities lending; repos), including attendant legal and reputational risks. Significant experience applying Canadian securities laws, exchange rules (e.g., TSX, MX), and CIRO rules (i.e., UMIR and IDCP Rules) in a capital markets context. Strong ability to balance competing work demands and to work independently and collaboratively within a team, including building effective relationships with internal partners. Strong problem-solving, communication and decision-making skills. Nice-to-have Bilingual (English/French) language skills considered an asset. What’s in it for you?
