Pay & Grade: $31.08 – 32.91 hourly, Grade/Band 6 (under review)
Hours of Work:40 hours per week

Overview
The Horticulturalist is responsible for greenhouse production and maintenance of floral displays and landscaped areas including design, planting, fertilizing, pruning, diagnosis of pests and diseases, and plant health care. This position provides quote estimation, installation, and maintenance of tropical plant inventory, provides design, construction, and layout of new landscaped areas, and applies pesticides.
This position may work varying shifts, weekends, overtime, and winter call outs as required.
Responsibilities
Perform all aspects of horticulture work, including:
Plant propagation and growing
Bed design, layout, and installation
Maintenance of landscape plantings
Pruning and plant health care
Plan and organize materials, supplies, and equipment for daily job assignments
Identify and recommend supplementary work to maintain horticulture beds and support community gardens
Monitor and assess landscaping conditions to identify maintenance needs based on service levels, plant health, and seasonal planting plans
Operate various vehicles and equipment (e.g., tractors, loaders, small power equipment)
Inspect Community Gardens as required
Participate in the winter job pool process for winter job assignments
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
Minimum Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
Diploma in Horticulture or an approved equivalent certificate in a related field.
Minimum 1 year of related experience within the field of Commercial Horticulture (or equivalent as determined by the Corporation).
Valid MTO driver's license class "DZ" in good standing or able to obtain DZ license within 6 months upon hire.
Ministry of Environment Landscape or Structural Exterminator License.
Proven knowledge and experience of methods and techniques in commercial horticulture relating to greenhouse operations, pruning, fertilizing, cultivation, soil elements, design, layout, and planting, interpreting blueprints, and landscape construction.
Must successfully complete required progression criteria as it relates to this job title.
Flexible to work varying shifts, rotational duties, weekends and overtime as required.
Must be available for winter call out as required.
Ability to participate as an effective team member.
Reliable with a good attitude and employment record.
