Maintenance Associate

Position Status: 2 x Full Time (40 hrs per week), Permanent
The Otipemisiwak Métis Government is looking for Maintenance Associates to perform a wide range of duties to ensure the overall safety, cleanliness, and functionality of Otipemisiwak Métis Government buildings and facilities. Reporting to the Building Operations Manager, the successful candidate’s will be responsible for conducting regular building inspections, maintaining mechanical systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, etc.), and performing routine and preventative maintenance tasks. The Maintenance Associate will adhere to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) standards while performing routine maintenance and landscaping duties to ensure Otipemisiwak Métis Government facilities and buildings are functional and in optimal condition. The successful candidate must excel in time management, organization, problem-solving, and have great attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities
Perform general maintenance tasks including but not limited to, replacing lightbulbs, fixing leaks, replacing doorknobs, and checking for minor heating/cooling issues.
Monitor and maintain building systems, such as mechanical, water, sewer, security, and emergency support systems.
Proactively take preventative measures to address any necessary repairs and identify any need for renovations, ensuring they are completed efficiently and to the highest standard. Report and recommend upgrades to the Building Operations Manager for ongoing improvement.
Ensure timely completion of seasonal maintenance tasks, including snow and ice removal, leaf cleanup, tree removal, and preparation of the landscape for seasonal changes.
Perform routine lawn care, general landscape upkeep, and maintenance of pathways, walkways, fences, gates, and vegetation.
Operate lawn mowers, trimmers, and other landscaping equipment.
Address complaints or requests related to the Otipemisiwak Metis Government buildings and grounds and make necessary adjustments.
Report any major building or structural concerns/repairs/emergencies to the buildings the Building Operations Manager.
Ensure building repairs are completed efficiently and to the highest standard.
Assist in monitoring the surveillance of properties and respond to cameras and fob access as directed by department leadership, ensuring all actions are conducted with strict adherence to confidentiality and security protocols.

Promptly respond to building emergencies, ensuring appropriate actions are taken based on the nature and severity of the situation.
Load and unload shipments, including equipment, furniture, and water deliveries, and organize materials and supplies received.
Assist with office set-ups and relocations including building multi-use structures and reconfiguring office spaces.
Maintain records of work performed, including schedules, maintenance logs, asset lists, tool usage, etc.
Ensure all tools and equipment function correctly and are effectively maintained.
Maintain cleanliness of work site by cleaning debris, sweeping, etc.
Abide to Occupational Health & Safety standards, building code, and other local/legal requirements.
Collaborate with the Health and Safety Advisor to stay up to date and comply with health and safety policies and best practices.
Ensure safe work practices are being followed, and that health and safety regulations are adhered to by employees.
Present a positive and professional image of the organization when interacting with employees, citizens, visitors, and other external stakeholders.

Knowledge of Métis history, culture, and issues affecting Métis people. An in-depth understanding of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government and Métis culture.
Qualifications
Minimum 2-3 years work experience in building maintenance.
Certification in WHMIS, PPE, Hazard Awareness, Fall Protection, and First Aid is required for this position. Where such certifications are not already held, appropriate training will be provided upon commencement of employment. Additional training may be assigned at the discretion of department leadership Trade tickets in plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, electrical, or a related trade is an asset.
Clear Vulnerable Sector Police Information Check with renewal every two years is required.
Ability to lift a minimum of 50lbs.
Other Requirements
Ability to work in the office in Edmonton, Alberta.
Reliable transportation and a valid Class 5 driver’s license.
Ability to work a regular schedule of Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:30pm with occasional overtime and a mixed schedule of days, evenings, and weekends. On-call work will be required.
As this position supports buildings and facilities across the Otipemisiwak Métis Government, this position will require regular travel within Edmonton, as well as some travel throughout the province of Alberta.
Ability to safely operate a range of vehicles, including cube vans, trucks, and trailers.
