SUMMARY & SCOPE: SAF, a division of Samuel, Son & Co., is seeking a Director of Business Development to lead SAF’s strategic growth within the Mining industry. Reporting to the Vice President of Sales for the Industries business unit, the ideal candidate will bring deep mining sector expertise, strong client relationships, and the ability to identify and convert strategic growth opportunities across domestic and international markets.
This role requires a comprehensive understanding of mining operations, capital projects, and maintenance needs—positioning SAF as a top-tier partner in providing engineered solutions, fabrication, and mine-site support services.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership & Coordination:
Lead SAF’s business development efforts in the Mining sector with a focus on year-over-year growth.
Manage a high-performing business development team focused on mining accounts and opportunities.
Establish and maintain strong relationships with key mining clients and industry stakeholders.
Understand client operational needs, long-term strategies, and capital planning to align SAF solutions.
Leverage SAF’s broad capabilities custom fabrication, pressure vessels, large-scale manufacturing, and mine technologies to propose value-driven solutions.
Identify emerging trends in the mining industry (e.g., electrification, ESG mandates, automation) to position SAF for future growth.
Drive opportunity capture strategies including the development of technical proposals, pricing models, and competitive differentiators.
Collaborate with operations, engineering, and estimating teams to ensure accurate and aligned project proposals.
Lead strategic planning for mining-related market penetration and expansion.
Represent SAF at industry events, trade shows, and client meetings to elevate brand visibility and influence.
Provide accurate forecasting and market intelligence to senior leadership.
ROLE REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum Job Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Mining, or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent technical experience.
Minimum of 10 years of business development or technical sales experience in the mining or heavy industrial sectors.
Proven track record of revenue growth and account development in mining markets.
Strong understanding of mining procurement cycles, capital expenditure planning, and vendor qualification processes.
Exceptional communication, negotiation, and relationship management skills.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Project).
Ability to travel up to 15% domestically and internationally as required.
