ABOUT THE ROLE
Lafarge Construction is currently seeking a full-time Highway Maintenance Worker to join our Highway Maintenance Division in Northern Alberta.
WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH
Inspect highways and assess road conditions, reporting deficiencies to the superintendent.
Operate snow plow trucks and loaders for snow removal and highway maintenance.
Perform manual tasks such as crack sealing, sign and guardrail repairs, removal of roadkill, placing gravel or asphalt, and repairing delineators.
Maintain, service, and repair equipment according to company and safety standards.
Complete administrative paperwork as requested by the superintendent.
Follow all safe work practices and participate actively in safety meetings and incident investigations.
Ensure public safety during all work activities.
Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Schedule: 12-hour shifts, alternating night and day, year-round
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
Field of Study Preferred: N/A
Required Work Experience: Minimum 2 years’ truck driving experience; experience operating snow plow trucks on highways is required.
Required Training/Certifications: Class 3 driver’s license with air brake endorsement.
Travel Requirements: Willingness to work in remote locations throughout Alberta.
Additional Requirements:
Willingness to complete training such as Employee Orientation, Operator Training, Flag Training, WHMIS, TDG, First Aid, and others as required.
Must be willing to work overtime and in all weather conditions.
Physically capable of performing labor-intensive tasks including crouching, bending, lifting, and kneeling.
Proven ability to follow safe work procedures and complete field risk assessments.
Strong commitment to safety and ability to work safely under varying conditions.
Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Lafarge-approved Personal Protective Equipment (“PPE”), including respirators when required. Respirator users must be clean-shaven where the seal meets the face to pass fit tests.
