Library Assistant
Regular Part-Time
(Up to 24 hours per week; 14 hours per week, Wednesdays and Thursdays)

Located in Toronto, the Art Gallery of Ontario is one of the largest art museums in North America, attracting approximately one million visitors annually. The AGO Collection of more than 120,000 works of art ranges from cutting-edge contemporary art to significant works by Indigenous and Canadian artists and European masterpieces.
We are currently seeking a Library Assistant to join our Library & Archives team. Under the direction of the Rosamond Ivey Special Collections Archivist & Head, Library & Archives, the incumbent will assist with delivery of library reference services. They will retrieve and re-shelve research materials. They will support technical services processes for library collections and assist with delivery of public programs.
The rate of pay for this position is $22.59 - $28.25 per hour.
What is this position responsible for?
Assist reference staff with orienting visitors, monitoring the reference desk and reading room, and answering basic reference questions.
Retrieve books, research materials and documentation files from closed storage locations for research use, and re-shelve same following use.
Under the instruction of the Library Cataloguer, assist with basic cataloguing tasks including minimal editing of existing records and deleting records for discarded titles.
Under the instruction of the Library Cataloguer, process library materials by affixing classification labels, applying protective book covers and making simple repairs to items in the Main collection.
What are we looking for?
Library and Information Technician coursework or undergraduate coursework in art, art history or related discipline preferred; high school diploma or equivalent and two years of experience in library services or related field; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Ability to identify and copy bibliographic information with accuracy.
Demonstrated interest in art and libraries.
Oral communication and customer service skills.
Basic familiarity with the Dewey Decimal System of Classification.
Experience with using Integrated Library Systems such as Horizon.
Experience with using photocopying and optical scanning equipment.
Fine motor skills for library preservation tasks.
Aptitude for accurate work and attention to detail.
Keyboarding skills.
