The Opportunity: The Occupational Therapy Assistant helps solve physical challenges that patients have with daily activities. They help to assess patients’ physical abilities during day-to-day tasks, implementing the prescribed treatment plan developed by an Occupational Therapist, and providing additional training and education to patients and the community in which they work. What Is In It For You: Reviews daily report and communication binders. Collects data and identifies problems. Porter’s residents to and from treatment room as required. Monitors resident ability to participate in therapy intervention. Is aware and appropriately communicates change of medical status, likelihood of aggression etc., to the Occupational Therapist. Regularly communicates with RN/LPN/Rehabilitation Professional any concerns. Under direction of the Occupational Therapist, performs position tasks such as, but not limited to, carrying out ROM exercises as instructed, mobilizing clients, transferring, and lifting residents using appropriate aids, conducting gait training, conducting appropriate exercise classes and group activities, assisting residents in walking program, preparing residents and equipment for rehabilitation treatment. Monitors and reports changes in resident response, status, and events to the Occupational Therapist in a timely manner. Ensures daily statistics, equipment lists and clinical records for each resident are accurate and current. Prepares, cleans, and maintains inventory equipment and supplies/materials/laundry. Completes therapy department safety check sheet on regular defined basis. What You Will Need Post-secondary education is an asset. Must be fluent in English, both orally and in writing. Completion of related diploma program from a recognized institution is an asset. Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate with a diverse population. Prior experience in continuing care/gerontology preferred. Advocating for the role of occupational therapy to help improve the lives of patients. Willingness to provide a high level of client service to all demographics. A desire to help others with compassion and empathy.
