The Relief Registered Practical Nurse maintains the smooth and efficient flow of patients through their appointments by receiving patients, assigning them to exam rooms, undertaking prescribed intake procedures, and assisting the practitioners, as requested. In addition, they help maintain the efficiency of the clinic by ensuring an adequate supply of common medications, medical supplies and sterilized equipment is on hand at all times.
Basic Responsibilities:
Works as part of the primary health care team
Works at the top of scope of RPN practice
Demonstrates safe, quality practice
Maintains smooth and efficient flow of patients through their appointments
Provides safe administration of medications and immunizations, venipuncture, disinfection/sterilization of equipment and environment, client education and assists practitioners as requested.
Triage clients to prioritize urgent needs
Ensures adequate supply of common medications and medical supplies
Perform phlebotomy and collection of other specimens for testing
Required Qualifications:
Current registration as a Registered Practical Nurse with the CNO
Completed current medication course
Thorough knowledge and proficiency in current nursing principles and practices
3-5 years broad-based practical nursing experience - a community primary health care setting desired
Treat each client with compassion, dignity and respect even in the face of challenging situations
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team environment
Demonstrated commitment to and knowledge of community-based health care
Computer proficiency with electronic charting
