With growth comes opportunity. Galvion has an exciting opportunity for an Armor Development Technician to join our team in Montreal. This is an early career role for a candidate looking to grow with a fast paced, fast-growing company.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
In this hands-on and varied role, you will support R&D for Armor programs to ensure internal program targets are met.
This role will require rigour, attention to detail, hands on shell fabrication from start to finish and innovative problem solving. You will propose process improvement strategies, execute sample manufacturing and preparation for testing, document test parameters, collect data, track material inventory, maintain and repair equipment as needed to produce shell samples. You will also train production personnel in fabrication and processing as products transition from R&D to production.
YOU WILL BE EVALUATED ON YOUR ABILITY TO
· Work closely with Armor Research Engineers to accomplish goals.
· Be the hands on operator manufacturing hard armor ballistic products (helmets) by preparing materials, molding helmets, collecting data and creating work instructions.
· Propose solutions to error proof processes, design and fabricate manufacturing aids (jigs) as the need is identified.
· Operate and maintain industrial equipment and tooling such as hydraulic presses, CNC cutting tables, T-shirt press, forklift, water heating and cooling units, and compression molding tools.
· Handle composite thermoplastic and thermoset materials according to best practices and guidance provided by the team.
· Identify and report shop deviations from the approved production process.
· Support the Montreal Deep Draw and Molding Development Laboratory and team.
· Provide recommendations to eliminate unnecessary work and activities that do not add value during the fabrication process (scrap, rework, repair, etc.).
· Adhere to workplace safety practices and standard operating procedures.
· Provide recommendations for effective maintenance of laboratory equipment, including updating standard operating instructions.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO SUCCEED
· 2-year community college program (DEC in Quebec) in either electromechanical, mechanical fabrication, machine automation and control, composite material processing or other applicable areas of study and a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
· Proficient in computer skills Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
· Knowledge of SolidWorks or other CAD is a plus.
· A positive can-do, customer-oriented attitude, motivation to learn, excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently with little guidance to meet overall objectives.
· Ability to operate power tools, basic machine shop machinery and perform trouble shooting and maintenance as required.
· Strong verbal and written communication skills.
· Familiarity with composite materials, computer Numerical Control (CNC) programming, G-Code language, and the ability to operate a forklift / other lifting equipment is a plus.
