The Opportunity
As a Laboratory Technician III Pressure-Volume-Temperature-Compositional (PVTC) you will play a critical role in analyzing reservoir fluid properties to support oil and gas exploration and production. This position involves conducting high-pressure, high-temperature (HPHT) experiments, including PVT analysis, phase behavior studies, and compositional analysis of hydrocarbons. The technician will operate and maintain specialized laboratory equipment, ensure data accuracy, and adhere to industry safety and quality standards. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a solid understanding of petroleum fluid behavior are essential for success in this role.

The Role
Lab Activities
Take direction for scope and objective of experiments
Fluid Characterization: PVTC
Field pilot tests using PVTC to design and evaluate field projects
Evaluate heavy oil phase behaviour – solubility, viscosity, and density
Heavy oil and solvent mixtures investigations
Calibrate advanced measurements systems – nuclear magnetic resonance
Gas chromatograph
Rotary evaporator
Fluid property analysis
Water cut analysis with centrifuge methods
Distillation of fluid samples using Dean Stark apparatus
Coriolis flow and densitometer devices
Management of sample inventory and sample testing priorities
Preparation of analytical reports
Laboratory Operations & Instrumentation
PVT Cells
Gas Chromatography
Viscometers
Densimeters
High pressure pumps
Vacuum pumps
Spectrometers (FTIR, Uv-Vis)
Digital Pressure and Temperature Sensors
Separator test equipment

Track Consumables, Ordering Materials
Track all consumables used in the execution of the research
Prepare invoices for the industry partner
Order consumables and keep necessary materials and supplies in good order to all for continuous operation of the lab work
Required Qualifications & Experience
Chemical Engineering Technology , Power Engineering Technology, or Petroleum Engineering diploma
3+ years demonstrated lab research experience in petroleum engineering, geology or geophysics, chemical engineering
Preferred:
Bachelor's degree or combination of education and experience in a senior technical role
5+ years of experience in a senior field role petroleum engineering
Skills Required
WHIMS
Experience in PVT analysis, fluid phase behaviour studies and reservoir fluid sampling
HPHT lab equipment experience
Gas chromatographs and viscometers
Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and petroleum chemistry
Laboratory safety protocols
Analytical software
Strong communication, both written and verbal
Excellent organizational and time management
Excellent time management and able to work in a high-pressure environment
High degree of organizational skills, and problem-solving ability, given the dynamic and often confidential nature of research projects
High degree of confidentiality and discretion
