Position Summary
Reporting to the Program Coordinator, the Program Assistants will assist the Instructors in delivering a recreation program to preschoolers, children, teens or adults. They will assist the Instructor in the delivery of age-appropriate activities, ensure participant safety and engagement, and follow policies and procedures.Key Duties and Responsibilities
Implement and actively supervise in planned activities.
Engage participants
Work with volunteers to ensure they are included in the programs and have various responsibilities.
Ensure participant safety and security throughout the program
Communicate and interact with participants and make everyone feel welcome
Report to work prior to the program start time in order to ensure the program is ready to start on time. Stay after the program end time, if needed, in order to clean up and answer participant questions
Assist with the supervision of all aspects of the program including participants and volunteers.
Complete and submit all necessary paperwork in a timely manner (e.g. list of hours worked, etc.)
Ensure the safety of participants, facilities and equipment at all times.
Assist the Instructor with delivering program evaluations to participants
With the assistance of the integration team, assist with modifying activities to ensure participants with disabilities are able to participate in programs and be fully integrated into the program setting.
Wear assigned uniform/name tag
Attend scheduled staff meetings and training sessions prior to, during and outside regular programming hours.
Maintain excellent public relations at all times.
Maintain good communication with staff and volunteers, facility users, and the Program Coordinator.
Understand and implement the policies and procedures of the Facility(s), and of the Community Services Department.
Represent the City of Richmond Hill in a cooperative, organized, enthusiastic and well-groomed manner.
Perform other duties as assigned
Education and Experience
High Five PHCD Certification is required if working with participants ages 6 – 12 years
Required Skills/Knowledge
Previous experience related to the type of activity being taught.
