We are currently looking for an Assistant Editor to create scientific news in written and multimedia formats for an audience of scientists working in biotech and pharma labs.
Drug Discovery News focuses on keeping our subscribers current with the latest trends and developments in drug discovery and development in biotech and pharma.
Responsibilities:
Pitch story ideas, report, write, and edit high-quality news articles, columns, original features, and multimedia content.
Work closely with the managing editor to prioritize coverage for monthly print issues, newsletters, and the website.
Develop a strong network of sources, scientists, collaborators, and freelance writers.
Convey complex technical ideas using effective, clear, creative, and lively storytelling.
Work with the art team to create science-based multimedia content such as illustrations, infographics, and other media.
Select and prepare content for weekly newsletters.
Stay up to date with the changing needs and interests of scientific researchers working in industry.
Requirements:
2+ years experience in science news writing: communications and/or journalism (Technical or academic writing experience does not count toward science news writing experience.)
Master's degree or higher in a relevant scientific field
Experience conducting life science laboratory research
Collaborative, creative, and innovative
Strong interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills
Other valuable experience:
Has a demonstrated track record of covering pharma and biotech industries
Commitment to journalism standards and best practices
Familiarity with SEO
Experience communicating and working with a remote team
