JOB OVERVIEW
Reporting to the VP, Clean Infrastructure Solutions, the Director of the Project Management Office (PMO) will play a key role in scaling the company’s project management capabilities to support Blackstone’s expanding energy retrofit and construction operations. This leader will further develop and oversee PMO functions, continuously improving development of standardized project management policies, procedures, and best practices, while mentoring a growing team. The Director, PMO will oversee a team of 3-4 Project Administrators and Project Coordinators .. This team is responsible for overseeing all of the Blackstone Energy Solutions Group projects and ensuring strong project policy, governance, control, financial management, quality assurance and risk management. They are also responsible for the day-to-day administration, support, and ongoing monitoring efforts of approved Blackstone Energy Solutions Group projects or programs, along with the respective key performance indicators for operating budgets, goals, timelines.
This is a key leadership position that requires both strategic vision and hands-on execution in further developing a PMO that supports operational efficiency, project delivery excellence, and sustainable, profitable growth.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
PMO Development:
Further develop, continuously improve and lead the Project Management Office organizational structure and systems.
Develop, implement, and continually improve project management methodologies, standards, policies, templates, and procedures aligned with industry best practices.
Establish a project governance and control framework including reporting, risk management, policies and processes.
Team Leadership:
Directly manage a team of Project Administrators and Project Coordinators; provide coaching, performance management, and professional development.
Recruit, onboard, and train additional PMO staff as the organization grows.
Foster a high-performance, collaborative team culture.
Project Oversight:
Oversee the execution of a diverse portfolio of consulting, energy management technology and construction projects, supporting project managers, ensuring they are systematically delivered on time, within scope, and on budget.
Implement project performance metrics and support regular project reviews, including:
Bi-weekly project status reports with Project teams (highlighting project P&L estimates, % complete, timelines, invoicing, WIP master sheet development with finance, change order reviews)
Monthly project status reports at individual project level
Develop and maintain a department roadmap of prioritized business systems, process, policy and capacity building development activities)
Act as an escalation point for project risks and issues.
Stakeholder Collaboration:
Collaborate with executive leadership, business development, operations, finance, and project field teams to ensure alignment on project priorities and resource planning.
Serve as a key liaison with clients for high-visibility projects.
Process and Technology Implementation:
Identify and implement project management tools and software to improve project tracking, resource management, communication, and reporting.
Drive digital transformation initiatives where applicable.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or related field; PMP certification strongly preferred. MBA or similar business degree an asset.
Minimum 10-15 years of progressive project management experience in a large contracting or construction company (overseeing a project portfolio of over $200M)
5+ years of leadership experience managing project teams and/or running a PMO.
Proven success building and scaling a PMO function, preferably in a fast-growing or entrepreneurial environment.
Deep understanding of construction project lifecycles, contracting methods, scheduling, budgeting, and risk management.
Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
Comfortable working in a high-growth, dynamic, and evolving environment.
Familiarity with construction management software (e.g., Procore, MS Project, Primavera).
Lean Construction, Six Sigma, or similar process improvement certifications are a plus
