The classes will combine lectures with case studies, presentations, and discussions on the fundamentals of trade agreements, trade policy formulation and trade strategy. The final module of the course will be a simulation of the negotiation of a prospective free trade agreement. In teams, students will plan negotiating strategies based on confidential mandate letters and implement these strategies in bilateral negotiation sessions. Students will also draft and present country statements and draft legal texts to be negotiated throughout the simulation. An LL.B., J.D., or equivalent is required for this position. Membership in the Law Society of Ontario (or equivalent) in good standing is an asset. The successful candidate will have significant experience in written and oral advocacy. This candidate will further have significant experience with international trade policy and in conducting trade negotiations. Prior teaching experience will be considered an asset.
