Summary: GFL Environmental is focused on reducing, reusing, recycling, recovering, and maximizing value from industrial waste with customers in a broad range of industry sectors. At the North Vancouver Refinery, we specialize specifically in oil recycling. Yard Operators are leaders in safety and efficient operating practices. You will be accountable for providing safe, efficient, effective, and cost-effective Bulk Material Handling operations in support of the facility re-refining activity. This position is full-time permanent and based out of our North Vancouver Oil Refinery. The regular work schedule will be 7:00am to 3:00pm, Monday through Friday and may transition to 9:00am to 5:00pm after 6 months. Job Duties: Ensure that all units are operated to GFL standards and in accordance with all government regulations. Follow Environment, Health and Safety policies, procedures, and all environmental protocols and requirements. Work within the guidelines of Transport Canada Regulations. Work safely and effectively in a team environment. Operate Bulk Material Handling tank and pumping systems. Load and offload tanker trucks and rail tank cars with various products including fuels, oils, hot asphalt, process water, and chemicals. Transfer products between tanks. Conduct proper segregation of materials and products to ensure quality of commodity and to minimize processing costs. Accurate, legible, and timely completion of shipping and receiving documentation including scale tickets, manifests, and bills of ladings. Document dangerous goods in compliance with TDG regulations. Conduct sampling and testing as required. Train in unfamiliar processes and equipment, within established guidelines. Acquire and maintain adequate certifications as required. Actively participate in safety meetings, identify and report all incidents, and participate in investigations, as necessary. Demonstrate an understanding of internal and external customer requirements and provide quality service. Ensure quality control of finished products as required. Maintain safe and clean equipment and work area. Effectively participate as a team member in the operation of the facility. Perform other operational duties as assigned including manual labor example (shoveling, cleaning sites, site layouts, pressure washing, etc.). Work in an outdoor setting in various weather conditions. Performs housekeeping duties as required to maintain a clean and organized work environment. Perform duties in a high energy work environment. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications and Education: High School diploma or equivalent. Refinery tank farm or loading / offloading operating experience would be an asset. Forklift experience would be an asset. Holder of BC or Inter-provincial minimum 4th Class Power Engineering certificate would be an asset. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Solid written communication skills to complete the required paperwork. Possess effective verbal communication skills to interact with Company staff, contractors, and customers. Ability to multi-task, exercise good judgment and think proactively. Work without direct supervision with only assistance from fellow team members and general operating and goal guidelines. Excellent customer service skills, with strong work ethic and positive attitude to represent the GFL brand effectively and favorably. This is a safety sensitive position.
